How Are We Adapting to A Socially Distant Future?
Identity has never been afraid of change, taking on big challenges and exploring new ways of working. It’s what we’ve always done and in 2020 that is no different. The world is a vastly different place than it was in January and as a result businesses are having to adapt rapidly to a myriad of new challenges, such as staff working from home, upskilling the workforce in new areas, taking advantage of new market trends, and ensuring workplaces are geared up for social distancing ahead of staff returning to the workplace in the near future.
Our directors along with the rest of the workforce have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to tackle these, and other challenges. Our Commercial Services Director, Rob Gietzen had this to say on the steps we’re taking as a business:
“In May we received detailed guidance from the government outlining the considerations that businesses should make when looking to reopen offices, call centres, factories and warehouses.
“Using this guidance we have been able to risk assess our premises and practices and have begun to install new signage, and plan for practical changes such as a one-way entrance and exit system, appropriate spacing between desks, strict cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures, and continued working from home where possible, among many other changes.
“This is a huge challenge for the business but with everyone working together, remaining vigilant and continuing to abide by social distancing guidelines we believe our business can continue to move forward and be successful whilst keeping staff and client safety at the forefront of what we do."
Although many of the challenges facing businesses at this time create uncertainty and unease, at Identity we are using this opportunity to look for the positives and use this time to our advantage, by upskilling our workforce while they work from home, opening up new business opportunities by identifying new market trends and taking part in webinars and digital conferences with industry experts.
“Our industry is changing faster than any of us could have ever anticipated, and while that has been a big challenge for us, we are excited about the future and are embracing this change with enthusiasm.
“We have been really pleased with the ease at which our workforce has taken to home working and it is important to maintain high levels of productivity away from the office as we move into a socially distant future. Despite the challenges, having the flexibility for most of our workforce being able to work away from our office environment regularly will be a big advantage for us.
“In addition to supporting in the workforce in this way, I have kept in regular contact with all staff during this time, via daily video updates, regular internal webinars and industry talks from some of the leading voices in our field. Getting feedback from our staff on these activities has been really useful to help us understand what works and what doesn’t in the new digital age and we’ll take that feedback forward as we continue to adapt.”
